Rūdis Bīviņš

Born: July 27, 1997

Born in Limbaži, raised in Aloja. As a child, he dreamed of becoming an architect. Graduated from Aloja Music and Art School (piano class, 2012) and Aloja Auseklis Secondary School (2016). During high school, he was part of a student training company where he made toys and various wooden products. While at school, he practiced karate for six years. After high school, he studied for a year at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Riga Technical University. In 2021, he graduated from the Dramatic Theatre Acting course at the Latvian Academy of Culture led by Indra Roga and Mihails Gruzdovs.

In teacher Indra Roga’s reference, after compliments about his good sense of humor—creating a Mr. Bean-like character—and his ability to work with form, another fact stands out: “(…) Then comes a complete surprise—the independent work from the play My Friend Hitler. His Hitler reached such a level of credibility that it became almost frightening. Rūdis is quiet, never imposes himself; he has golden hands, he can ignite quickly, and then his dark eyes burn like embers. At his core lives a man with strength and a firm grip.”

In director Inese Mičule’s production Mourning Becomes Electra, the actor faced a challenge—to portray a good person. “Rūdis Bīviņš’s Peter and his sister Hazel (played by Inese Pudža) occasionally arrive in the Mannon household, woven through with lies, like twins from the outside world—messengers of light, in whom human warmth has not yet faded, while at the same time their gazes reflect the silent horrors dwelling in the house.” (Kitija Balcere, Velvet or Mold, Lsm.lv, 11.06.2023)

The “unusual comedic abilities” noticed by his teacher have also been demonstrated by Rūdis Bīviņš in another production by Inese Mičule—the “loser cowboy comedy” American Buffalo (Līga Ulberte, KDi, 26.05.2022).

It seems that his true role at the Valmiera Theatre and his full artistic breakthrough are still ahead for Rūdis Bīviņš.
