THE TAILOR DAYS IN SILMAČI
What is revealed when Rūdolfs Blaumanis’s The Tailor Days in Silmači is read like any other play – free from the stereotypes of beloved interpretations?
Director Elmārs Seņkovs is ready to challenge himself and the audience by looking at The Tailor Days in Silmači with a fresh perspective. “If it is said that every director must stage Hamlet, then every Latvian director must stage The Tailor Days in Silmači. It is a challenge because the play carries a massive layering of audience preconceptions. I want to look more closely at certain scenes that are often glossed over or even omitted,” says Seņkovs, offering the audience a chance to discover something new or see the beloved play in a different light.
But, as always during Midsummer at Silmači – the stove will explode, the bees will attack. And there will be live music.
The production is being created with the support of the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation during the Valmiera Theatre’s 2025/2026 season. As this powerful collaboration continues, four new productions are set to debut in the new season.
